Understanding Data
This course is designed to provide 7 – 12 teachers with the key mathematical ideas surrounding data. Based on both the National Council of the Teachers of Mathematics Standards and PDE content standards for mathematics for grades 7 - 12. Topics include:

• Quantifying data
• Representing data
• Interpreting data
• Comparing data

In addition to the content, we will focus on student-centered pedagogy. Teachers will have the opportunity to

• Record initial thoughts to problems/Benefit from others’ thoughts
• Confirm one’s own ideas/Expand on everyone’s ideas o Read, write, and talk about data in ways you can introduce to your students so they can read, write, and talk about data
• See commonalities among all the chapters in your textbooks so you’re no longer teaching hundreds of separate topics
