ONLINE ASYNCHRONOUS COLLABORATION

ONLINE--Anytime, anywhere, without taking the time to travel—teachers often find that in the time they would have had to travel to classes, they can actually get the work done. You can take advantage of this experience too with all the support of the Math Forum and Drexel University School of Education Instructional Technology Team.

ASYNCHRONOUS—Although there is a deadline every week, twice a week during summer, there are always three or four days to do the work-- teachers often participate during their lunch or prep, first thing in the morning, or after the put their own children to bed at night. You can work in bite-sized chunks of math. A few thoughts here, a few thoughts there, no need to spend hours frustreated on any one topic.

COLLABORATION—Collaboration means no more doing mathematics isolated—teachers are always surprised at how their colleagues share their thinking with each other and respond to each other’s thinking. Also, you can post thoughts, those that are nagging at you, and expect others to respond with their own nagging thoughts or ‘ah-ha’ moments, even as you continue to think about them yourself. No one has all the answers. We finally admit AND EMBRACE working together, sharing ideas in our own time, as often as we want, until we begin to understand the world of mathematics in ways that enrich our own classrooms.
